Why A Ranch Home Is Nice Even For Younger People
Ranch homes are often touted as being great for older people. And they are! Older folks can remain in a ranch home for longer because there are no stairs to navigate and because the open floor plan often seen in these homes makes it easy to get around in a wheelchair. But don't assume a ranch home is a bad choice if you're still decades from retirement. As it turns out, these homes have a lot of advantages for younger people, too.
You can reach the windows to clean them without climbing on a ladder.
When you live in a ranch home, all of the windows are within a few feet of the ground. This means you can reach then to clean the exteriors simply by standing on a step ladder. This is so much safer than having to climb on a ladder to clean top-floor windows. You don't have to invest in a harness or hire professional windows cleaners, which will save you quite a lot of money over the span of your homeownership.
You can often maintain the gutters and roof yourself.
The roof is also much closer to the ground when you have a ranch home. You will probably still have to stand on a ladder to clean the gutters, but it will be a short ladder. If you're comfortable doing so, you can probably even venture onto the roof to make minor repairs yourself. This is not as safe or feasible when you live in a tall, 2-story home.
You can have kids or invite kids over without worrying about the stairs.
With no stairs, you won't have to worry about kids tumbling down. You can invite friends' kids over without a problem and without having to put up a series of baby gates to keep them away from the stairs.
You won't have to worry about noisy people upstairs keeping everyone downstairs awake.
When you live in a 2-story home, you always hear the people upstairs walking around when you're downstairs. This is not an issue in a ranch home. People can walk as heavily as they want without worrying about disturbing anyone on the floor below.
Ranch homes are nice for older people, but they are also a good choice for younger homebuyers. If you don't want to deal with stairs, noisy walkers upstairs, or hiring a window cleaning company, then a ranch home is for you. Look for new ranch homes in an area you like.
